Harjinder Kaur Clinches Silver With Record-Breaking Performance
Weightlifter Harjinder Kaur produced the performance of her career to win the silver medal in the women’s 69kg category, adding India’s seventh weightlifting medal of the Games.
The 5ft 3in lifter displayed remarkable composure and strength, setting multiple Commonwealth Games records during the competition. Harjinder lifted 101kg in the snatch after opening with 99kg, before continuing her impressive run in the clean and jerk by successfully lifting 123kg and 126kg.
She finished with a career-best total of 227kg, securing the silver medal.
However, Canada’s Charlotte Simoneau proved unstoppable, rewriting the Games record books with a 108kg snatch, 132kg clean and jerk, and an overall total of 240kg to claim the gold medal.
Gulveer Singh Makes History in Men’s 10,000m
Distance runner Gulveer Singh etched his name into the record books by becoming the first Indian athlete to win a Commonwealth Games medal in the men’s 10,000m event.
Competing under challenging conditions with heavy rain and a waterlogged track, Gulveer stayed with the leading pack before launching a powerful late sprint.
He crossed the finish line in 27:49.78, narrowly missing gold by just 0.85 seconds. Australia’s Ky Robinson claimed the top spot with a timing of 27:48.93, while Gulveer’s outstanding effort earned him a historic silver medal.
Vishal TK Advances to Men’s 400m Semifinals
India also remained in contention for an athletics medal through Vishal TK, who qualified for the men’s 400m semifinals.
The national record holder, who became the first Indian to run below the 45-second mark earlier this year with a 44.98-second performance, finished second in Heat 6 of the opening round.
Vishal clocked 46.49 seconds, securing his place among the 16 semifinalists. His qualifying time ranked 14th overall, leaving him with a tougher challenge in the next round as he aims for a place in the final.
The men’s 400m semifinals are scheduled for Thursday.

In the men’s 55kg category, Jadumani Singh delivered another dominant performance, defeating Zambia’s Mwengo Mwale by unanimous decision to move into the final four.
With all three boxers reaching the semifinals, India is now assured of at least three boxing medals at the Games.
Parveen Hooda and Kapil Pokhariya Exit
Not all results went India’s way on Day 6.
Parveen Hooda suffered a heartbreaking exit after losing a closely contested 2-3 split decision to England’s Sacha Hickey in the quarterfinals.
Meanwhile, Kapil Pokhariya also bowed out after his campaign ended in the men’s 90kg quarterfinal.
