Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced stricter action against examination paper leaks, saying the Centre will soon introduce a new Bill in Parliament to strengthen the legal framework and protect students’ interests.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday reaffirmed the government’s commitment to tackling examination paper leaks, describing the issue as a matter of serious concern for millions of students and their families. He said the Union Cabinet would discuss stronger measures during its meeting and hinted at more decisive action in the coming days.
In a video message shared on X late Thursday night, titled “More strict actions against paper leaks to come in tomorrow’s Cabinet!”, the Prime Minister said the government was determined to make the examination system more secure and transparent. His remarks come amid ongoing protests over the alleged NEET paper leak at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar.
Government to Introduce New Anti-Paper Leak Bill
PM Modi revealed that the Centre plans to introduce a new Bill in Parliament next week aimed at strengthening laws against examination paper leaks.
Calling the issue “far from ordinary,” the Prime Minister said paper leaks have deeply affected the future of lakhs of students and caused immense distress to their parents.
He stressed that the government is committed to ensuring that such incidents are dealt with firmly and that stricter legal provisions will help deter future offences.
Several Accused Already Behind Bars
Highlighting the government’s action so far, PM Modi said multiple individuals accused in the paper leak case have already been arrested over the past two-and-a-half months and remain in judicial custody.
He added that the Centre’s immediate priority has been to ensure students do not lose an academic year because of the controversy. According to him, efforts were made to conduct the re-examination at the earliest so that deserving candidates are not adversely affected.
Video Statement Comes Ahead of Key Government Meeting
The Prime Minister’s remarks came shortly after reports emerged that a delegation from the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) is scheduled to meet Union ministers on Friday. According to sources, the meeting is expected to take place after 12 pm, although officials have not disclosed the venue.
The proposed talks follow behind-the-scenes discussions aimed at resolving the ongoing impasse surrounding the NEET paper leak controversy.
CJP Continues Protest at Jantar Mantar
The Cockroach Janta Party has been staging a continuous protest at Jantar Mantar for several weeks, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and calling for sweeping reforms in India’s examination and education system.
With the Cabinet set to deliberate on stricter anti-paper leak measures and a new Bill expected in Parliament next week, the government’s response to the issue is likely to remain at the centre of national attention.
