Upcoming Hatchbacks in India: SUVs have become increasingly popular among Indian car buyers, but hatchbacks continue to hold an important place in the market. Their compact dimensions, easy manoeuvrability, affordable running costs and relatively accessible pricing make them particularly attractive to first-time buyers and urban customers.
Several new and updated hatchbacks are expected to arrive in India soon. These include the Toyota Glanza Facelift, next-generation Hyundai i20, new Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and Maruti Baleno CNG AMT. Here is what we currently know about these upcoming models.
1. Toyota Glanza Facelift
Following the arrival of updates for the Maruti Baleno, Toyota is also expected to introduce a refreshed version of the Glanza. Since both premium hatchbacks share their underlying architecture and several components, the upcoming Glanza could receive many of the same upgrades.
The Toyota Glanza Facelift is expected to get styling revisions, particularly around the front section. Its feature list could also become considerably more advanced.
Potential equipment may include:

- Ventilated front seats
- 360-degree camera
- Head-Up Display (HUD)
- 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system
- Six airbags
Under the bonnet, the facelift could use Maruti Suzuki’s new 1.2-litre Z12E three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine. Transmission choices are expected to include a manual gearbox and AMT.
If Toyota combines the refreshed styling with a stronger equipment package and updated powertrain, the Glanza could become an even more attractive premium hatchback.
2. All-New Hyundai i20
The Hyundai i20 has established itself as one of India’s most popular premium hatchbacks. Its sporty exterior styling, feature-rich cabin and premium feel have helped it build a strong customer base.
Hyundai has already revealed the fourth-generation i20 in Brazil, and the new model is expected to reach the Indian market by 2027.
The next-generation i20 is expected to receive substantial changes inside the cabin. Among the anticipated highlights are dual 12.3-inch displays, a redesigned steering wheel, connected-car technology, wireless charging and Level 2 ADAS.
The centre console could also receive a different layout, including vertically arranged climate-control buttons.
Expected Hyundai i20 Engine Options
The existing petrol powertrains are expected to continue in some form. These could include a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine.
A diesel powertrain is not expected to make a comeback with the new-generation model.
3. All-New Hyundai Grand i10 Nios
Hyundai is also preparing a next-generation version of its compact hatchback, the Grand i10 Nios. The company has confirmed that the new-generation model is scheduled to launch next year.
Although Hyundai has not disclosed complete technical specifications yet, the upcoming Grand i10 Nios is expected to be based on a new platform.
The exterior design could receive a major overhaul, while the cabin is also likely to get a more modern appearance and additional equipment.

- Larger touchscreen infotainment system
- Updated driver display
- Electric sunroof
- Ventilated seats

Hyundai Grand i10 Nios Engine and CNG
The familiar 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine is expected to remain part of the lineup. It could continue to be available with both a manual transmission and AMT.
A CNG variant is also expected. However, it is not yet clear whether Hyundai will pair the CNG powertrain with an automatic gearbox.
4. Maruti Baleno CNG AMT
Maruti Suzuki is preparing another interesting addition to its premium hatchback range—the Baleno CNG with an AMT gearbox.
At present, the Baleno CNG is available with a manual transmission. Introducing an AMT option would give customers the convenience of an automatic gearbox while retaining the lower running costs associated with CNG.
This combination could be especially useful for people who drive regularly in heavy urban traffic, including commuters in Delhi-NCR and other busy metropolitan areas.
The Baleno CNG AMT is expected to launch next year. If Maruti Suzuki manages to keep its pricing competitive, the model could attract buyers looking for an automatic hatchback with economical running costs.
Upcoming Hatchbacks in India: What to Expect
The hatchback segment may face strong competition from SUVs, but manufacturers are still investing in new products and updates for buyers who prefer compact cars.
The Toyota Glanza Facelift could bring more premium features, while the new Hyundai i20 is expected to receive a major generational makeover.
