Jason Sanjay, son of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and former superstar Thalapathy Vijay, is making his directorial debut with Sigma, which releases in cinemas worldwide today, October 2, 2026. Ahead of the film’s release, Jason opened up about how he expects his father to respond to his first film and spoke about his efforts to establish an identity of his own in the industry.

Jason Sanjay on Vijay’s Reaction to ‘Sigma’

During an appearance on the Pearle Maaney Show, Jason Sanjay spoke about his father, Vijay, who became the ninth Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on May 10, 2026.

Discussing how Vijay might react after watching Sigma, Jason described him as someone who prefers to take his time before forming an opinion about a film.

“Usually he is a very quiet person. He always takes his time. He needs more time to analyse a movie,” Jason said.

However, he believes his father will ultimately be proud of the project because it marks his first film as a director. Jason also revealed that he deliberately kept the script away from both Vijay and his grandfather, veteran filmmaker SA Chandrasekhar, as he wanted to develop the project independently.

Dulquer Salmaan Was the First Person to Hear the Story

The interview also shed light on Jason’s filmmaking journey and his educational background. The 26-year-old filmmaker studied film production in Toronto and later pursued screenwriting in London.

Jason revealed that actor Dulquer Salmaan was the first person he narrated the story of Sigma to. He described the experience as a “wonderful experience.”

Being the son of a major film star and a filmmaker has also brought its own expectations, but Jason has expressed his intention to build a separate identity through his work.

If he gets an opportunity to direct Vijay in the future, Jason said he would prefer to explore a side of his father that audiences do not always see on screen. Rather than concentrating on Vijay’s action-oriented or mass image, he would like to highlight his “fun, innocent and humorous side.”

Jason recalled that audiences had previously enjoyed seeing Vijay in light-hearted romantic comedies and relatable roles. He also described his father as having a childlike nature in real life and said he would like to bring that quality to the screen.
