Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt has addressed the controversy surrounding his recent remarks about the lack of peace in India. The actor, who was recently seen in the Marathi biopic Raja Shivaji, clarified his comments on Sunday through a detailed post.

Sanjay explained that his remarks were made during a scripted conversation and were later taken out of their intended context. He also said that he never meant to hurt or disrespect any person, community or institution.

Sanjay Dutt Explains His Statement

In his clarification, Sanjay Dutt said that his comments were never intended to offend anyone. He explained that the conversation was scripted and designed to have a light-hearted and humorous tone.

The actor compared the intended spirit of his remarks to the humour and satire associated with films such as Munna Bhai, particularly the idea of ‘Gandhigiri’. According to Sanjay, the message behind his comments was about love, warmth, togetherness and goodwill.

He further stated that his words were understood outside the context in which they were originally spoken.

Social Media Users React to Sanjay’s Clarification

Sanjay Dutt’s explanation did not convince everyone on social media. Several users questioned his claim that the conversation was scripted and continued to criticise his earlier remarks.

One user said they preferred the actor’s earlier, more candid persona and suggested that the clarification appeared scripted. Another user strongly criticised Sanjay and brought up his past legal controversies while questioning his explanation.

A third user also questioned how much of the conversation on the show was scripted, asking whether host Shekhar Suman similarly tells guests what responses to give.

The reactions came after Sanjay faced criticism over his appearance on Shekhar Suman’s chat show Shekhar Tonite.

What Did Sanjay Dutt Say on the Show?

During his appearance on the show, Sanjay Dutt spoke about his view of India and expressed his wish for greater peace in the country.

He said that Indians are warm-hearted and hospitable people and spoke about the country’s long-standing tradition of giving and welcoming others. The actor added that he could no longer feel the same sense of peace in the country and expressed hope that those days would return.

Sanjay also concluded his remarks by saying that he prayed to Shivji for peace to return.

His comments subsequently sparked a debate on social media, eventually prompting the actor to issue his clarification about the context in which the statements were made.
