Bollywood actor Imran Khan, nephew of superstar Aamir Khan, has received a notice from Mumbai Police directing him to leave India by October 28. The notice comes days after he participated in a protest in Mumbai demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

According to the information provided, action has been initiated against the actor under Sections 7 and 29 of the Immigration and Foreigners Act. Khan, who is reportedly not an Indian citizen, has also received a copy of the notice.

Imran Khan Detained After October 10 Protest

Khan was detained by Mumbai Police on October 10 in connection with the protest held at August Kranti Maidan. The demonstrators had gathered to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

The case gained further attention on October 13, when BJP leader and former Member of Parliament Kirit Somaiya approached the Union Ministry of Home Affairs and immigration authorities, requesting that a Look Out Circular (LOC) be issued against the actor.

In a letter addressed to Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan on October 13, Somaiya urged the ministry to prevent Khan from travelling abroad until an inquiry into his complaint and the investigation into the Mumbai Police case were completed. He also requested that the Bureau of Immigration issue an LOC and alert the police if the actor attempted to leave the country.

Kirit Somaiya Raises Immigration and Citizenship Concerns

In his letter, Somaiya alleged that the protest at August Kranti Maidan had been organised without the required permission. He claimed that Khan attended and participated in the gathering before being detained by Mumbai Police.

According to the letter, Gamdevi Police Station registered a First Information Report (FIR) in connection with the incident under number 813 of 2026, naming Khan in the case. Somaiya also stated that he had not received a copy of the FIR.

The BJP leader further claimed that Khan is a US citizen and reportedly holds an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card. He asked the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Bureau of Immigration to examine whether the actor’s participation in the protest warranted action under Section 7D of the Citizenship Act, 1955, and the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025.

Imran Khan’s Acting Career and Bollywood Comeback

Imran Khan began his film career as a child artist, appearing in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak in 1988 and Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar in 1992. He made his debut as a lead actor in 2008 with the romantic comedy Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na, which proved successful.

After his next two films failed to perform well, Khan went on to feature in several commercially successful romantic comedies, including I Hate Luv Storys, Mere Brother Ki Dulhan and Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu. He also appeared in the action-comedy thriller Delhi Belly.

A subsequent run of box-office disappointments led to a hiatus from acting. Khan recently returned to the screen with a cameo appearance in Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos, a film featuring Vir Das, Mithila Palkar, Mona Singh, Sharib Hashmi and Srushti Tawade. The appearance marked his return to films after an extended break of roughly a decade, following his last full-fledged lead role in Katti Batti in 2015.

Directed, co-produced and written by Nikhil Advani, Katti Batti is a romantic comedy starring Imran Khan and Kangana Ranaut. Meanwhile, Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos follows Happy Patel, an enthusiastic but clumsy spy whose missions lead to unexpected consequences.
