Bollywood actor Jackie Shroff paid tribute to two well-known figures from Indian cinema on Tuesday, remembering legendary actor-comedian Mehmood on his birth anniversary and veteran actor Tom Alter on his death anniversary.
Shroff shared a collection of black-and-white photographs of Mehmood on social media, highlighting different stages of the late actor’s career. Alongside the pictures, he wrote, “Remembering Mehmood ji on his birth anniversary.”
Jackie Shroff Celebrates Mehmood’s Legacy
The tribute was accompanied by the song “Muthu Kodi Kawari Hada”, featuring Mehmood and Asha Bhosle. The track appeared in the 1973 film Do Phool and is credited to Asha Bhosle and Mehmood.
The photographs showed Mehmood in several memorable phases of his career, including the comic performances that established him as one of Hindi cinema’s most popular entertainers.
Born on September 29, 1932, Mehmood worked in the Hindi film industry for more than four decades and appeared in over 300 films. Besides acting, he also worked as a singer, director and producer.
His filmography included popular titles such as Padosan, Gumnaam, Bhoot Bungla, Pyar Kiye Jaa, Kunwara Baap and Main Sunder Hoon. Mehmood was also the father of singer Lucky Ali, who later established his own identity in the Indian music industry with songs including O Sanam.

Along with his tribute to Mehmood, Jackie Shroff also shared a separate post in memory of Tom Alter on the veteran actor’s death anniversary.
The post featured a portrait of Alter along with the dates “22 June 1950 – 29 Sept 2017.”
Tom Alter, who died on September 29, 2017, aged 67, was known for his work across Indian cinema, television and theatre. He made his film debut with Saheb Bahadur, while Charas was technically his first released film.
Over the years, Alter appeared in several notable films, including Des Pardes, Kranti, Amar Akbar Anthony, Shatranj Ke Khilari, Naukri and Kudrat.
Tom Alter’s Contribution to Theatre and Television
Alter also became a familiar face on Indian television, particularly through shows such as Junoon and Shaktimaan. He also appeared in Ssshhhh… Koi Hai.
His contribution extended beyond films and television. A passionate theatre performer, Alter co-founded Motley Productions with Naseeruddin Shah and Benjamin Gilani. The group’s first production was Samuel Beckett’s Waiting for Godot, staged at Mumbai’s Prithvi Theatre in 1979.
In recognition of his contribution to the arts, Alter received the Padma Shri in 2008. He died in Mumbai on September 29, 2017, after battling stage IV skin cancer.
