Jeep has presented a new and unconventional version of its iconic Wrangler through the Scrambler SRT Concept, showcased by Stellantis. The concept combines the rugged character of an off-road SUV with the practicality of a pickup truck and performance features inspired by desert racing.

However, Jeep has clarified that the Scrambler SRT is currently a concept vehicle designed to demonstrate potential engineering and design ideas. There is no confirmation that it will enter production.

Tim Kuniski, Head of American Brands, SRT Performance and Direct Connection at Stellantis North America, described the project as an opportunity to explore a different direction for Jeep’s traditional off-road philosophy.

Jeep Wrangler Scrambler SRT Concept: 470hp Hemi V8 Engine

The Scrambler SRT Concept gets its power from a 6.4-litre Hemi V8 engine that produces 470hp and 470lb-ft of torque. The engine sits beneath a bonnet finished in Jeep’s distinctive Punk’n orange colour.

One of the vehicle’s most noticeable features is its functional rear pickup bed. Unlike some earlier Wrangler-based concept vehicles, where the rear section was mainly designed for appearance, this model includes a practical cargo area.

The Scrambler name also pays tribute to Jeep’s original Scrambler pickup. The company has continued to explore its heritage through the Wrangler and Gladiator Rewind package for 2026, but this new concept introduces considerably more extensive mechanical changes.

Inside the cabin, Jeep has included reversible jump seats. These seats can be positioned to face either forward or towards the pickup bed. The arrangement is particularly suited to desert driving, where rear-facing passengers could watch the surrounding terrain or follow other vehicles.

Independent Front Suspension Brings a Different Off-Road Setup

One of the biggest changes in the Scrambler SRT Concept is its independent front suspension (IFS). Traditional Jeep Wrangler models generally use a solid front axle, which is popular among off-road enthusiasts because of its ability to handle difficult rocky surfaces.

For this concept, Jeep has taken a different engineering approach in collaboration with off-road racer Casey Currie.

The independent front suspension offers 14 inches of wheel travel, while the rear suspension provides 15 inches. According to Jeep, the arrangement is designed to deliver improved stability at high speeds, more precise steering and better wheel control over uneven desert terrain.

Unlike a solid axle, where the movement of one front wheel is connected to the other, independent suspension allows both wheels to move separately. This can help maintain better control when driving quickly over repeated bumps and rough surfaces.

However, independent suspension generally provides less extreme articulation than a solid axle during slow-speed rock crawling. With this concept, Jeep appears to have prioritised high-speed desert driving rather than traditional rock-crawling performance.

Trophy Truck-Inspired Rear Suspension and 37-Inch Tyres

The rear suspension system also takes inspiration from Trophy Trucks, which are specially designed for high-speed off-road racing and demanding terrain.

These vehicles need suspension systems capable of handling repeated impacts without compromising control. Jeep has incorporated a similar approach into the Scrambler SRT Concept.

The combination of a specialised rear axle, independent front suspension and 37-inch tyres further highlights the vehicle’s focus on desert performance.

Together with the 470hp V8 engine, these mechanical changes make the Scrambler SRT one of the more unconventional Wrangler-based concepts showcased by Jeep.

Will Jeep Wrangler Scrambler SRT Enter Production?

Although the concept introduces several interesting features, Jeep has not announced any production plans.

It remains unclear whether the company will eventually develop a production Scrambler pickup featuring independent front suspension, the 6.4-litre Hemi V8 engine or both.

For now, the Scrambler SRT Concept serves as a demonstration of how Jeep could combine its traditional off-road heritage with engineering ideas inspired by desert racing.
