ATF Price Hike: Aviation Fuel Rates Rise by 1% From November 1, Airfares May Be Affected

Air travel could become more expensive as aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices have increased from November 1, 2026. Fuel prices are generally reviewed on the first day of every month, and the latest revision has brought another increase in the cost of aviation fuel.

The rise comes shortly after commercial LPG cylinder prices were revised. Since fuel accounts for a significant share of an airline’s operating expenses, higher ATF rates may put additional pressure on airlines and could eventually affect passengers through increased ticket prices or fuel surcharges.

ATF Prices Increase in Delhi

In Delhi, the price of aviation turbine fuel has increased by around 1% from November 1. The rate has moved up from ₹137.12 per litre to ₹138.50 per litre, according to the figures provided.

ATF prices had already recorded a sharp increase of 13.22% last month, adding approximately ₹16 per litre. The latest revision has added around ₹1.25 more in November. As a result, the overall increase over the two consecutive revisions has exceeded ₹17 per litre.

Why Is the ATF Price Hike Important for Airlines?

Aviation fuel is one of the biggest expenses for airlines. It accounts for around 40% of an aircraft’s overall operating expenses, while ATF is estimated to make up approximately 35% to 40% of an airline’s costs.

When fuel prices rise, airlines have to spend more on operations. This can affect their overall financial burden and may influence the fares charged to passengers.

Could Air Ticket Prices Increase?

Airlines may consider passing on some of the additional fuel expenses to passengers through higher ticket prices or fuel surcharges.

No official decision on a fresh fare increase has been announced so far. However, IndiGo, India’s largest airline, has recently indicated the possibility of higher fares.

If airlines decide to adjust their pricing in response to rising fuel costs, passengers could face higher travel expenses in the coming days.
