Uttar Pradesh ration card holders may soon receive an additional healthcare benefit along with their existing ration facilities. The state government has approved a proposal to bring Antyodaya and Eligible Household (Patra Grihasthi) ration card holders under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana.

If the proposal is implemented, eligible beneficiaries could receive cashless medical treatment coverage of up to ₹5 lakh annually. The move is expected to extend health insurance benefits to millions of families who may otherwise find it difficult to manage expensive medical treatment.

Which UP Ration Card Holders Will Get the Benefit?

The proposed expansion of the Ayushman Bharat scheme covers two major categories of ration card holders in Uttar Pradesh.

These include Antyodaya ration card holders, who belong to the economically weakest sections of society, and Eligible Household (Patra Grihasthi) card holders covered under the National Food Security Act.

The proposal aims to extend healthcare protection to eligible individuals from both categories, subject to the final eligibility rules issued by the government.

Free Medical Treatment Up to ₹5 Lakh Under Ayushman Bharat

Under the Ayushman Bharat PM Jan Arogya Yojana, eligible beneficiaries can receive cashless medical treatment worth up to ₹5 lakh per family every year.

This facility allows beneficiaries to access eligible treatment at hospitals registered under the scheme, including participating government and private hospitals, without paying the covered treatment expenses themselves.

If the Uttar Pradesh proposal is implemented, more ration card-holding families will be able to access these healthcare benefits.

Around 14.61 Crore People Could Benefit

According to available reports, Uttar Pradesh has approximately 3.63 crore eligible ration cards covering nearly 14.61 crore people.

If these ration card categories are brought under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, a large number of additional individuals could become eligible for health coverage.

However, people employed in government jobs or already receiving benefits under other government healthcare schemes may be excluded from the proposed arrangement. The final rules regarding such exclusions have not yet been clarified.

When Will the UP Ration Card Ayushman Facility Start?

Although the proposal to include ration card holders under the Ayushman Bharat scheme has received approval, the government has not yet announced the official implementation date.

Details regarding registration, card issuance and the final eligibility conditions are also awaited.

Ration card holders should therefore wait for the government’s official guidelines before applying or assuming that they are eligible for the additional medical coverage.
