Indian Railways is upgrading onboard cleaning services on five major trains with the help of modern technology. The initiative by Northeast Frontier Railway aims to improve passenger comfort through cleaner coaches, better washroom maintenance and quicker responses to complaints. Artificial intelligence (AI) and digital monitoring systems will help railway officials track cleaning quality and ensure that service standards are maintained.

Passenger Complaints to Be Addressed Within Two Hours

Passengers travelling on the selected trains can expect quicker action on housekeeping issues such as dirty washrooms, overflowing dustbins and water shortages. Northeast Frontier Railway has introduced a target of resolving passenger complaints within two hours.

Dedicated teams will be responsible for handling cleaning-related problems and providing basic technical assistance. If an issue remains unresolved, it will be escalated to the concerned railway authorities for further action.

AI and Digital Tracking to Monitor Cleaning Standards

The new system will use AI-based assessments, geo-tagged service verification and digital tracking of staff to improve supervision of housekeeping activities. These measures are intended to help railway authorities monitor cleaning work more effectively.

Passenger feedback and star ratings will also play an important role. By reviewing responses in real time, officials will be able to identify shortcomings and take corrective action where cleaning standards need improvement.

Five Trains Included in the New Initiative

The technology-driven cleaning upgrade covers two Vande Bharat Express services and three other superfast trains. The selected services are:

  • New Jalpaiguri–Patna Vande Bharat Express
  • New Jalpaiguri–Guwahati Vande Bharat Express
  • Guwahati–Kolkata Garib Rath
  • Dibrugarh–Mumbai LTT Express
  • Kamakhya–SMVT Bengaluru Express

The rollout began on October 10, with the remaining services scheduled to join the initiative by October 14.

The programme is aimed at improving onboard cleanliness, strengthening staff accountability and making it easier for passengers to get housekeeping issues resolved during their journeys.
