Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming mythological epic, Ramayana: Rise of a Legend, continues to generate excitement among moviegoers, with its grand visuals, powerful musical score and star-studded cast drawing widespread attention online. Although the film’s official trailer premiered in late July 2026, subsequent character reveals and promotional clips have kept the buzz alive, offering audiences a closer look at the film’s ambitious cinematic world.

The English version of the promotional material has also attracted attention, with viewers discussing the film’s visual scale and the anticipated confrontations between its central characters.

Ramayana: Rise of a Legend Trailer and Star Cast

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, known for Dangal, Ramayana: Rise of a Legend is the first instalment of a planned two-part cinematic series. The project is produced by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios in collaboration with Oscar-winning visual effects company DNEG, along with Yash’s Monster Mind Creations.

Ranbir Kapoor plays Lord Rama and also portrays Parashurama, while Sai Pallavi stars as Sita. Yash, making his Hindi film debut, takes on the role of the demon king Ravana.

The supporting cast includes Sunny Deol as Hanuman, Ravie Dubey as Lakshman, Kunal Kapoor as Indra, Anupam Kher as the voice of Jatayu, Arun Govil as Dasharatha and Lara Dutta as Kaikeyi.

The film’s music is another major highlight, with Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman collaborating on the score. Their composition incorporates Sanskrit verses into the film’s musical themes, adding to its mythological setting.

The promotional footage showcases elaborate visual effects, celestial settings and large-scale battle sequences. Among the moments attracting particular interest are Ravana’s confrontation with Indra and the anticipated battle between Ravana and Jatayu.

Ramayana Trailer Receives Strong Reactions Online

The trailer and subsequent character reveals have sparked considerable discussion across social media, particularly on X. Many viewers have praised the film’s visual presentation, background music and ambitious scale, describing the visuals as some of the most impressive seen in recent Indian film promotions.

Yash’s portrayal of Ravana has emerged as one of the most discussed aspects of the project. One user on X wrote, “VFX peak now even Doomsday looks nothing in front of this. Best casting of this decade: Yash as Ravana, Yash sitting on dead bodies. #Ramayana.”

The proposed Ravana-Jatayu confrontation has also generated excitement. Reacting to the sequence, another user commented, “This will be PEAK…….Ravana VS Jatayu scene is really to erupt the theatres.”

Ranbir Kapoor’s appearance as Lord Rama has received positive responses as well, with fans highlighting the character’s dignified look and emotional intensity. Some viewers have also suggested that the film’s visual scale gives it an international cinematic feel, with expectations that it could have a significant impact on Indian cinema.

However, the response has not been entirely positive. Some social media users have questioned the quality of certain visual effects shots, arguing that the film’s scale calls for consistently high technical standards.

One user expressed disappointment by writing, “Acting: 10/10 VFX: -50/10 We expected world-class VFX from a film like #Ramayana, but some of these shots are genuinely disappointing. The performances look promising, but the visuals definitely need more work.”

Filmmakers Address Expectations Around Visual Effects

Director Nitesh Tiwari and producer Namit Malhotra have previously asked audiences to wait for the complete cinematic experience before forming a final opinion. They have also highlighted the time involved in creating the film’s visual effects, noting that certain sequences took up to three years to complete.

Despite criticism of some shots, the overall response to the promotional campaign has been largely enthusiastic. The film’s cast, ambitious production and musical collaboration continue to fuel expectations ahead of its theatrical release.

With an estimated combined budget of ₹4,000 crore (US$500 million) for both instalments, Ramayana: Rise of a Legend is set to become the most expensive Indian film ever made.
