India Post employees have received an important update regarding their annual bonus for the financial year 2025–26. Eligible regular employees will receive a productivity-linked bonus (PLB) equivalent to 60 days’ salary, while Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS) and qualifying casual workers will be covered under separate bonus arrangements.
The announcement comes during the festive season, following the central government’s decision to provide a 78-day productivity-linked bonus to 1.14 million railway employees. The India Post bonus amount will depend on the employee’s category, eligible salary and the number of days worked.
Which India Post Employees Are Eligible for the Bonus?
The bonus arrangements cover different categories of postal workers, subject to the applicable eligibility conditions.
- Regular employees: Eligible Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS), Group C and non-gazetted Group B employees will receive a productivity-linked bonus.
- Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS): Eligible regular GDS employees will receive an ex-gratia bonus.
- Casual employees: Eligible full-time casual labourers and casual employees with temporary status may receive an ad hoc bonus if they meet the prescribed conditions.
The applicable rules and service requirements determine whether an employee qualifies for the payment.
How Is the 60-Day India Post Bonus Calculated?
For eligible regular postal employees, the productivity-linked bonus is calculated using 60 days’ salary. The calculation uses the employee’s average monthly salary, the eligible bonus period and the applicable salary ceiling.
The calculation formula is:
Bonus = Average monthly salary × Eligible bonus days ÷ 30.4
The maximum monthly salary taken into account for the calculation is ₹7,000. The same ceiling applies to Gramin Dak Sevaks under the stated provisions.
For full-time casual employees, the ad hoc bonus is subject to specific service conditions. Eligible workers must have completed the required number of working days for three consecutive years up to March 31, 2026.
Will Employees Who Retired or Resigned Also Receive the Bonus?
Employees who resigned, retired, left their jobs or went on deputation between April 1, 2025, and March 31, 2026, may also qualify for the bonus under the rules applicable to regular employees.
Their eligibility and payment will depend on the relevant provisions governing their employment category and service during the period.
