Railway employees are awaiting an update on the Productivity-Linked Bonus (PLB) for the financial year 2025-26. The proposal to revise the annual bonus may be considered at a Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, October 14. However, an official decision on the proposed increase is still awaited.

At present, eligible non-gazetted railway employees receive a bonus equivalent to 78 days of wages. Under the existing calculation system, the maximum payable amount is ₹17,951. Employee associations are now demanding an increase in the salary ceiling used to determine the bonus.

Railway Employees Bonus Hike: What Is the Latest Update?

The salary ceiling used for calculating the Productivity-Linked Bonus has remained unchanged since the financial year 2014-15. Under the current system, eligible employees receive a bonus calculated on the basis of 78 days of wages, resulting in a maximum payment of ₹17,951.

The Indian Railways Technical Supervisors’ Association (IRTSA) has urged the government to revise the existing limit. The association has proposed increasing the salary ceiling to ₹18,000 plus Dearness Allowance (DA) for employees at Level 2 and above.

IRTSA has also highlighted the need to update the calculation system in view of changes in salary levels. Citing a minimum salary of ₹21,000 for unskilled workers, the association has proposed an annual bonus of at least ₹46,184 under its suggested formula.

However, the proposed amount is a demand raised by the association and has not been confirmed as the revised bonus for railway employees.

Cabinet Meeting: Will Railway Employees Get a Higher Bonus?

Railway employees are waiting for the government’s decision on the proposed PLB revision. If the Cabinet approves an increase in the salary ceiling, the bonus calculation could change, potentially raising the amount payable to eligible employees.

At present, there is no confirmed announcement establishing that the bonus will increase to ₹46,184. The final amount will depend on the government’s decision and the subsequent official notification from the concerned railway authorities.

Employees should therefore distinguish between the association’s proposal and an officially approved increase. Until a formal announcement is issued, the existing bonus amount remains the reference point.

Railway Board Warns Employees About Fake Bonus Letter

The Railway Board has reportedly issued a warning about a fraudulent letter circulating on social media that claims a bonus of ₹41,149 has been approved for the financial year 2025-26.

According to the clarification, the letter was not issued by the Railway Board and contained forged signatures. Railway offices were instructed not to act on the document, while employees were advised to rely on official communications for bonus-related information.

Currently, the existing PLB calculation results in a maximum bonus of ₹17,951, while IRTSA is demanding an increase to at least ₹46,184. Railway employees should wait for an official notification to confirm whether the proposed revision will be accepted and what amount will ultimately be approved.
