Consumers planning to obtain a new electricity connection in Uttarakhand will face revised charges from November 1. The Uttarakhand Electricity Regulatory Commission (UERC) has announced changes to service line charges and other connection-related fees. Alongside the revised rates, the commission has introduced measures intended to make the connection process more transparent and convenient for consumers.

The order aims to reduce unnecessary visits to electricity offices and address concerns about inconsistent practices during the connection process. It was issued by a commission bench comprising Chairman M.L. Prasad, Legal Member Anurag Sharma and Technical Member Prabhat Kishore Dimri.

Uttarakhand New Electricity Connection Charges

Under the revised schedule, service line charges will increase for certain categories of consumers. For connections with a load of up to 4 kW, BPL consumers will pay ₹150 instead of the earlier ₹100. The charge for general consumers in the same category will rise from ₹1,000 to ₹1,400.

For higher-load connections, the prescribed service line charges are ₹3,000 for loads between 4 kW and 10 kW and ₹5,000 for loads between 10 kW and 25 kW. The order also mentions a security charge of ₹600.

Consumers should check the applicable charges for their connection category and load before submitting an application.

No Security Deposit for Prepaid Electricity Connections

The revised rules provide relief to consumers choosing prepaid electricity connections. According to the order, those opting for prepaid connections will not have to pay a separate security deposit or additional security fee.

They will only need to pay the prescribed charge for the prepaid meter itself. This provision changes the security deposit requirement for consumers selecting the prepaid option.

Transformer and Power Line Charges

The commission has also specified charges for laying electricity lines, including provisions for BPL and general-category consumers.

BPL consumers will not have to pay for power line installation up to a distance of 300 metres. If the distance exceeds 300 metres, a charge of ₹400 for every additional 10 metres will apply.

For general consumers with a connected load of up to 4 kW, the charge for laying an overhead power line up to 300 metres has been fixed at ₹900. For an underground line, the specified charge is ₹2,700.

These revised provisions set out the applicable costs for different connection categories and power line requirements.
