Employees with an EPF account can check their provident fund balance without visiting an office or logging into the EPFO portal. The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) provides a missed-call facility that allows eligible members to receive their PF account details on their registered mobile number.
The service is available through the number 9966044425. Members need to make the missed call from the mobile number registered with their UAN. EPFO says the service is free of cost.
How to Check PF Balance Through a Missed Call
The process is straightforward. Call 9966044425 from the mobile number linked to your UAN. The call will automatically disconnect after about two rings.
After the request is processed, EPFO provides the member’s latest contribution and PF balance details through the registered mobile number. The service can be used without paying any charges.
Members can also check their PF information through the official EPFO Member Passbook service, while EPFO lists both the missed-call and SMS facilities among its employee services.
What Is Required to Use the Missed-Call Facility?
The mobile number used for the missed call must be activated with the member’s UAN. EPFO’s official guidelines also require at least one KYC detail—such as Aadhaar, PAN or bank account information—to be linked with the UAN.
If these requirements are not fulfilled, the missed-call facility may not provide the PF details. Members should therefore ensure that their UAN and KYC information are properly updated.
How Does EPF Contribution Work?
Under the standard EPF contribution structure, the employee contributes 12% of eligible wages, while the employer also contributes 12%. The employer’s contribution is divided between the Employees’ Provident Fund and the Employees’ Pension Scheme according to the applicable rules.
For the financial year 2025–26, the EPFO Central Board recommended an 8.25% annual interest rate, which was subsequently notified for EPF deposits.
What Is EPFO?
The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) is the organisation responsible for administering India’s major provident fund, pension and insurance schemes for covered workers. EPFO traces its origins to the Employees’ Provident Funds Ordinance of November 15, 1951, followed by the Employees’ Provident Funds Act of 1952.
EPFO administers three major schemes: the Employees’ Provident Fund Scheme (EPF), Employees’ Pension Scheme (EPS) and Employees’ Deposit Linked Insurance Scheme (EDLI). These schemes provide provident fund, pension and insurance-related social security benefits to eligible members.
