Hyundai is preparing to expand its SUV lineup in India with the new Bayon, a 4.2-metre crossover scheduled to launch in October 2026. Positioned between the Venue and Creta, the Bayon is being developed with a more premium and urban-focused design rather than following the conventional boxy SUV styling.

The company has already started revealing the vehicle through teaser videos, with the latest teaser providing a closer look at its rear profile and overall silhouette. Hyundai has also opened bookings for the upcoming model, with customers able to reserve it online or through authorised dealerships by paying a token amount of ₹11,000.

Hyundai Bayon Gets New H-Edge Lighting

The Bayon’s exterior design is one of its major highlights. At the rear, Hyundai has introduced its new H-Edge lighting theme, with a slim LED light strip positioned above the tailgate and just above the rear bumper.

The reverse lamps are expected to be incorporated into the tail-lamp assembly. Other visible elements include an integrated roof spoiler with stop lamps, a shark-fin antenna and the Hyundai logo mounted on the tailgate. A black trim element and the BAYON lettering are placed below the logo.

The front design follows a similar styling approach. Previous teasers have shown a sculpted bonnet, H-Edge LED daytime running lights, geometric wheel arches, wrap-around door cladding and bridge-style roof rails.

Unlike traditionally shaped SUVs, the Bayon has a sleeker crossover profile. Hyundai is positioning the model for buyers looking for SUV practicality along with a more stylish and city-oriented appearance.

Engine, Transmission and Expected CNG Option

The Hyundai Bayon will be based on the company’s Global K Enhanced Platform, which has been developed to meet Indian safety requirements. Hyundai has focused on structural strength, occupant protection and safety engineering during the vehicle’s development.

Power is expected to come from a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine. The unit is expected to produce 114 bhp and 144 Nm of peak torque. Transmission choices are likely to include a 6-speed manual and a CVT automatic.

Another important feature could be the factory-fitted CNG option. The Bayon is expected to become Hyundai’s first SUV measuring more than four metres to receive a factory-fitted CNG setup. The CNG tank is likely to be positioned underneath the vehicle, helping retain useful cabin and boot space.

Hyundai Bayon Competition in India

Once launched, the Hyundai Bayon will enter a competitive SUV market where models such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder are already available.

With its crossover-focused design, petrol powertrain and expected factory-fitted CNG option, the Bayon will add another choice to Hyundai’s SUV portfolio when it arrives in India in October 2026.
