Jeevan Pramaan Patra, also known as the Digital Life Certificate, is an important requirement for government pensioners to ensure the continued payment of their pension. The process can now be completed digitally using Aadhaar-based authentication, allowing eligible pensioners to generate the certificate without visiting a pension office or bank in person.

October is particularly important for pensioners aged 80 years and above. The Government of India has provided an exclusive window from October 1 for very senior pensioners, allowing them to submit their Life Certificate before the regular November rush. The government confirmed in March 2026 that pensioners above 80 can submit their Digital Life Certificate during October.

Why Is Jeevan Pramaan Patra Required?

A Life Certificate is used to verify that a pensioner is alive so that pension payments can continue. Jeevan Pramaan provides a digital alternative to submitting a physical certificate at a bank, post office or other pension-disbursing agency.

The system uses Aadhaar-based biometric authentication. Once the pensioner’s identity is successfully verified, the Digital Life Certificate is generated and stored electronically, where it can be accessed by the pension-disbursing authority.

Pensioners need to provide their Aadhaar number or Virtual ID along with relevant pension information. The Aadhaar details also need to be available with the pension-disbursing agency for processing the certificate.

How to Generate Jeevan Pramaan From Home

Eligible pensioners can generate a Digital Life Certificate from home using the Jeevan Pramaan mobile application and Aadhaar-based face authentication.

For face authentication, the official requirements include a compatible smartphone, an internet connection, sufficient RAM and storage, and a camera with a resolution of at least 5 megapixels. The Jeevan Pramaan app and AadhaarFaceRD application are required for the face-authentication process. A separate biometric device is not necessary when using face authentication.

The basic process is:

  1. Install the Jeevan Pramaan application and AadhaarFaceRD on a compatible smartphone.
  2. Complete the required operator authentication.
  3. Enter the pensioner’s Aadhaar and pension-related information.
  4. Complete Aadhaar-based face authentication using the phone’s camera.
  5. After successful authentication, the Digital Life Certificate is generated and a Pramaan ID is provided.

The pensioner can also act as the operator during the mobile-based process.

Is the Life Certificate Valid Forever?

No. A Jeevan Pramaan certificate does not remain valid permanently. Its validity is determined according to the rules of the concerned Pension Sanctioning Authority. Once that period ends, a new Digital Life Certificate must be generated.

Pensioners aged 80 years and above should therefore take advantage of the October submission window. Other Central Government pensioners generally submit their annual Life Certificate during November, while pensioners under other government pension systems should follow the applicable instructions of their pension-sanctioning or disbursing authority.

The Jeevan Pramaan system is available to eligible pensioners whose Pension Sanctioning Authority is onboarded on the platform. Digital Life Certificates can also be generated through Jeevan Pramaan centres, banks, post offices and other authorised channels.
