Why Is a Life Certificate Required?
Government pensioners have to periodically confirm that they are alive so that their pension payments can continue. The Life Certificate serves as this confirmation and can now be generated digitally without necessarily visiting a bank or pension office.
Pensioners can use Aadhaar-based identification along with facial or fingerprint authentication to complete the process. To use the facility, the pensioner’s Aadhaar number or Aadhaar-generated identification must be available, and the Aadhaar details should be registered with the bank, post office or other organisation responsible for disbursing the pension.
How to Generate a Life Certificate From Home
Pensioners can generate a digital Life Certificate using an Android smartphone that has an active internet connection and a front-facing camera. The process requires the installation of the relevant government applications.
To begin, keep the Aadhaar number ready and ensure that it is registered with the pension-disbursing organisation. The pensioner can then download Aadhaar Face RD and the Jeevan Pramaan Face App from the Google Play Store.
After opening the application, complete the required verification and provide the pensioner’s details. The pensioner can also act as the operator if required. The next step involves taking a clear selfie through the phone’s front camera for facial authentication.
Once the verification and processing are completed successfully, the Life Certificate is generated. A text message and download link are then sent to the pensioner’s mobile phone.
Does a Life Certificate Remain Valid Forever?
A Life Certificate does not remain valid indefinitely. Its validity period depends on the rules prescribed by the concerned pension department. Once the certificate expires, the pensioner must submit a new one to continue meeting the required verification conditions.
Pensioners aged 80 years and above should therefore watch for the official announcement regarding the start of the Life Certificate submission facility for 2026. Other pensioners should also follow the applicable schedule of their bank, post office or pension-disbursing organisation and complete the process within the prescribed period.
