The Centre has introduced a new Livestock Insurance Portal aimed at helping farmers protect themselves from financial losses linked to the death or loss of insured animals. Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Rajiv Ranjan Singh, also known as Lalan Singh, launched the digital platform under the National Livestock Mission (NLM).
The portal is designed to simplify access to livestock insurance services and bring farmers, insurance providers and state governments onto a common digital platform.
For many rural families, livestock remains an important source of income. The loss of an animal due to disease, an accident or a natural calamity can put considerable financial pressure on a household. The new online system is intended to make insurance-related processes easier to access, manage and track.
What Is the Livestock Insurance Portal?
The Livestock Insurance Portal has been developed by the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying as a government-backed digital platform.
It functions under the livestock insurance component of the National Livestock Mission and provides services related to insurance registration, premium payments, policy management and claims.
The platform will also allow farmers and other stakeholders to monitor insurance policies and follow the status of claims online. Farmers can access the portal at https://rashtriyapashubima.dahd.gov.in.
How Will Livestock Insurance Help Farmers?
Livestock insurance is intended to provide financial protection against risks including animal deaths, diseases, accidents and natural calamities, depending on the terms and conditions of the individual insurance policy.
If an insured animal dies under a covered circumstance, the farmer may be eligible to receive compensation according to the applicable policy.
The government expects the new portal to bring several insurance services together in one system. Farmers will be able to check policy details, manage premium-related information, verify beneficiaries and track claims.
The digital approach is also expected to improve transparency and help reduce delays in insurance-related processes.
More Than 30 Lakh Animals Insured This Year
At the launch event, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Secretary Naresh Pal Gangwar said that more than 30 lakh animals had already been covered under livestock insurance during the year.
Union Minister of State S P Singh Baghel highlighted the financial uncertainty faced by farmers and expressed hope that the new portal would help provide greater financial support through easier access to insurance services.
Lalan Singh also emphasised the importance of livestock in rural livelihoods. He called for greater awareness of the insurance scheme so that more farmers can benefit from it.
The minister encouraged state governments, insurance companies and other stakeholders to promote the scheme through social media and public awareness campaigns.
According to the ministry, more than 4,000 participants attended the launch event online.
