New LPG Cylinder Rules: LPG consumers across the country will see changes in cylinder booking, pricing and subsidy rules from October 1, 2026. Under the new regulations mentioned by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, consumers will need to complete Biometric Aadhaar Authentication (BAA) to receive the applicable ₹210 subsidy on LPG cylinders.
The changes will come into effect as September ends and the new month begins. Consumers using domestic LPG connections should be aware of the revised requirements to avoid losing access to the subsidy.
Biometric Aadhaar Authentication Becomes Mandatory
Under the revised LPG rules, consumers are required to complete Biometric Aadhaar Authentication for the applicable subsidy linked to the regulated retail selling price.
Consumers who have not completed the verification by October 1 will not have their LPG connection cancelled, nor will they be stopped from receiving a cylinder. However, they will not receive the government subsidy and will have to pay the applicable market price for the refill.
Those who have already completed the biometric Aadhaar authentication process do not need to complete it again.
LPG Cylinder Prices to Be Revised on October 1
Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) review LPG cylinder prices on the first day of every month, taking international crude oil prices into account. As a result, new prices for domestic as well as commercial LPG cylinders will be announced on October 1.
The government had also changed the rules governing the gap between two LPG cylinder bookings on September 7. Earlier, consumers in rural areas were required to maintain a 45-day gap between bookings. Under the revised system, the waiting period has been reduced to 25 days and applies uniformly across the country.
Why the New LPG Verification Rule Has Been Introduced
The biometric authentication requirement is intended to ensure that subsidized LPG benefits reach eligible consumers. The process can also help identify duplicate or ineligible connections and address the commercial or industrial use of subsidized domestic LPG cylinders.
For consumers, the authentication requirement is a one-time process if their biometric Aadhaar verification has already been completed.
How to Check LPG e-KYC Status
Consumers can check their LPG connection and e-KYC status through the official website of their respective LPG distributor. Customers using Indane, HP Gas or Bharat Gas can access the relevant online services.
The central government’s MyLPG.in portal can also be used to check LPG-related information and the status of the connection.
