The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall across several parts of the country on September 26, with Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh among the areas expected to receive intense showers. The latest IMD warnings indicate extremely heavy rain in parts of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, while very heavy rainfall is expected in parts of Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh.
Moderate to heavy rain is also likely in several other regions, including Bihar, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim.
Thunderstorm and Lightning Alert
Along with rainfall, the weather department has warned of thunderstorms and lightning in Bihar, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
The IMD has also indicated the possibility of thunderstorm and lightning activity over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Kerala, Mahe, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim and Telangana.
The warnings are particularly relevant for areas where heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are expected at the same time.
Northeast and Vidarbha Also Under Watch
Thunderstorm activity is also forecast in parts of Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. Vidarbha is also expected to experience thunderstorms and lightning during the day.
The IMD’s latest warnings show that weather activity remains spread across northern, central, eastern and northeastern parts of the country. Residents in areas under heavy rainfall and thunderstorm warnings are advised to follow the latest local weather updates and advisories.
