Mahindra has launched the new Thar OG in India with a starting price of ₹10.32 lakh (ex-showroom). The updated SUV is available in three variants — AXT, LXT and ZXT — and comes with 1.5-litre diesel, 2.2-litre diesel and 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine options.
The Thar OG receives substantial updates to its chassis, suspension, steering and off-road hardware. Both rear-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive configurations are available depending on the engine and variant. Deliveries are scheduled to begin on October 11, 2026, while the introductory prices will apply to deliveries made until November 30, 2026.
Mahindra Thar OG Price and Variants
The petrol range begins with the LXT variant, while the 1.5-litre diesel engine is available from the entry-level AXT trim. The 2.2-litre diesel and 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engines are offered with both RWD and 4WD configurations.
The LXT petrol RWD automatic is priced at ₹14.77 lakh, while the 4WD manual and automatic versions cost ₹15.60 lakh and ₹17.23 lakh, respectively.
For the ZXT petrol variant, the RWD automatic costs ₹16.09 lakh. The 4WD manual is priced at ₹16.60 lakh, while the 4WD automatic costs ₹17.75 lakh.
The diesel lineup starts at ₹10.32 lakh for the 1.5-litre diesel AXT RWD manual. The same engine in the LXT and ZXT trims is priced at ₹12.99 lakh and ₹13.99 lakh, respectively.
The 2.2-litre diesel LXT RWD automatic costs ₹16.49 lakh, while the ZXT RWD automatic is priced at ₹17.49 lakh. For the 4WD versions, the LXT manual costs ₹16.43 lakh and the automatic ₹18.00 lakh. The ZXT 4WD manual is priced at ₹17.49 lakh, while its automatic version costs ₹18.99 lakh.
AXT and LXT Features
The AXT is the entry-level version of the Thar OG, but it still gets several useful features. These include electric power steering and push-button start. Safety equipment includes dual airbags, ESP with rollover mitigation and a roll cage.
The SUV also comes with 18-inch steel wheels, halogen MFR headlamps and LED tail lamps. Other equipment includes a height-adjustable driver seat, soft rear armrests, rear AC vents, a rear demister and an internally opening fuel lid. The braking system uses front disc and rear drum brakes.
Moving up to the LXT brings a larger set of features. The 4WD versions receive an electronic locking differential along with terrain modes for mud, sand and snow. Certain RWD versions powered by the 2.2-litre diesel and 2.0-litre petrol engines also get Terrain Assist.
The LXT features 18-inch alloy wheels, a 10.25-inch HD touchscreen infotainment system and a colour MID. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are also included, along with cruise control, electrically adjustable ORVMs and a rear wiper-washer.
Other additions include Adventure Statistics Gen II and a tyre direction monitoring system. The 4WD versions also get a washable floor with drain plugs, which is designed to make cleaning after off-road use easier.
ZXT Features and Safety Equipment
The ZXT sits at the top of the Thar OG range and comes with the most extensive equipment list. It gets 19-inch alloy wheels, LED headlamps with C-shaped DRLs and LED front fog lamps with a cornering function.
Inside, the SUV features a wireless charger, embossed leatherette seats and a leatherette-wrapped steering wheel. A rear-view camera and front parking sensors are also included.
Safety equipment is further upgraded with six airbags, including four HPTS airbags. The ZXT also gets front and rear disc brakes, ESP 9.3 and a tyre pressure monitoring system.
Frequency Dependent Damping (FDD) is another feature available on the ZXT. With its combination of multiple engine choices, RWD and 4WD configurations, updated chassis and suspension components, and different levels of equipment, the new Thar OG is offered across a broad range of configurations.
