Public Sector Banks (PSBs) and Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) will remain open on Sunday, September 27, to ensure that customers continue to have access to essential banking services.
The Finance Ministry said the decision has been taken in view of the three-day nationwide bank strike proposed by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) from September 28 to 30. The proposed strike comes immediately after the weekend holidays on September 26 and 27.
RBI Approves Sunday Banking Operations
According to the Ministry, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved the continued operation of bank branches and offices on Sunday. ATM-linked branches and Currency Chests will also remain fully operational on the day.
The move is aimed at maintaining the availability of banking services during the period surrounding the proposed strike and weekend holidays.
Government Appeals to Unions
The Finance Ministry said the government and bank managements have appealed to the unions to defer the proposed strike.
At the same time, steps have been taken to ensure that essential banking services remain available without interruption. Customers will therefore be able to access banking facilities on Sunday, September 27, ahead of the proposed strike beginning on September 28.
