Mahindra has introduced the updated Thar OG in India with a starting introductory price of ₹10.32 lakh (ex-showroom). The three-door SUV receives substantial mechanical and feature upgrades, including the new M_Glyde 4G platform, revised rear suspension, electric power steering, updated engines and additional off-road technology. Deliveries are scheduled to begin from October 11, 2026.
The Thar OG continues with the familiar three-door format but gets improvements aimed at ride comfort, handling, capability and everyday usability. It is offered in AXT, LXT and ZXT variants, with prices extending up to ₹18.99 lakh depending on the engine, transmission and drivetrain.
Mahindra Thar OG Price and AXT Variant
The entry-level Thar OG AXT is priced at ₹10.32 lakh and is available with the 1.5-litre diesel engine, a manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive. The LXT variant starts at ₹12.99 lakh with the same engine and drivetrain combination. These prices are introductory and apply to deliveries made until November 30, 2026.
The base AXT variant now gets electric power steering instead of the earlier hydraulic setup. It also receives push-button start, 18-inch steel wheels, rear AC vents, a height-adjustable driver’s seat and a soft second-row armrest with a cupholder. Other equipment includes ESP with rollover mitigation, a roll cage and LED tail lamps.
New M_Glyde 4G Platform and Suspension
One of the biggest changes to the Thar OG is underneath the body. Mahindra has shifted the three-door SUV to its M_Glyde 4G platform, which has been engineered with increased structural stiffness.
The rear suspension has also been redesigned with a PENTALINK setup incorporating a Watts Link. Mahindra has additionally introduced DAVINCI damping technology, while Frequency Dependent Damping is available on the top-spec ZXT. These changes are aimed at improving ride comfort, stability and handling.
The Thar OG also receives improved NVH damping to reduce unwanted noise and vibrations inside the cabin. Electric power steering is now available across the range, making low-speed manoeuvring easier.
Off-Road Features and Engine Updates
The LXT and higher variants bring additional equipment for off-road driving. Four-wheel-drive versions receive an Electronic Locking Differential along with dedicated Mud, Sand and Snow terrain modes. Terrain Assist is also available on selected rear-wheel-drive versions. The LXT gets a colour MID, a 26.03 cm touchscreen infotainment system, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, cruise control, electrically adjustable ORVMs, rear wiper and Adventure Statistics.
Mahindra has also increased the output of its larger petrol and diesel engines. The 2.2-litre mHawk diesel now produces 111.9 kW, or roughly 152 hp, and 330 Nm of torque. The 2.0-litre TGDi mStallion petrol engine develops 119 kW, or roughly 161 hp, along with 330 Nm. The 1.5-litre diesel continues with 87.2 kW, or around 117 hp, and 300 Nm.
ZXT Variant and Safety Features
At the top of the range, the ZXT adds several premium and safety features. These include 19-inch alloy wheels, LED headlamps with C-shaped DRLs, LED fog lamps with cornering functionality, wireless charging, front parking sensors, a rear-view camera, TPMS and all-wheel disc brakes.
The ZXT also gets leatherette upholstery and Mahindra’s Frequency Dependent Damping technology. Six airbags, including additional head-pelvis-thorax-shoulder protection airbags, are offered on the top-spec version. The updated Thar OG therefore combines its traditional three-door off-road format with a new platform, revised suspension, stronger powertrains and a broader equipment list.
