The 8th Pay Commission has announced another round of stakeholder consultations, with meetings scheduled to take place in Mumbai on October 22 and 23, 2026. Central government departments, organisations, institutions and employee unions can seek appointments to discuss matters relevant to the Commission.
According to a Ministry of Finance announcement issued on September 21, interested organisations must submit the online application form by October 10, 2026, to request a meeting slot.
After submitting their memorandum, participants will receive a unique Memo ID. This ID will need to be provided to the Commission during the consultation process. Details regarding the exact venue and the complete schedule for the Mumbai meetings will be communicated separately.
8th Pay Commission Expands Stakeholder Consultations
The Mumbai meetings are part of the Commission’s wider consultation exercise with employees, organisations and other stakeholders.
Before Mumbai, the 8th Central Pay Commission had scheduled a visit to Bengaluru for October 7 and 8, 2026. Organisations and associations were invited to request appointments with the Commission during the visit, with September 18 set as the application deadline.
These consultations are intended to provide stakeholders with an opportunity to present their views and relevant memorandums before the Commission as it works through issues within its mandate.
New Rules for 8th CPC Consultant Recruitment
The Commission has also revised its guidelines for hiring consultants. Under an office memorandum issued on August 11, the 8th CPC will recruit professionals across three categories: Senior Consultant, Consultant and Consultant (Young Professional).
The maximum number of positions has been fixed at two for Senior Consultants, five for Consultants and 16 for Young Professionals.
The eligibility requirements include at least 10 years of relevant experience for Senior Consultant positions, six years for Consultant roles and two years for Young Professional positions. The maximum age limits are 45 years, 40 years and 32 years, respectively, with August 1, 2026, serving as the reference date.
Applicants with experience in areas such as human resources and industrial relations, legal matters, and technology or data analysis can apply if they meet the prescribed criteria. Preference will be given to candidates with experience related to pay and compensation structures, employee benefits and organisational staffing.
Why Are 8th Pay Commission Meetings Important?
Pay Commissions are generally constituted at 10-year intervals to examine matters concerning the pay, allowances and related benefits of central government employees and pensioners.
The stakeholder meetings provide organisations and associations with an opportunity to place their concerns and suggestions before the Commission. The information and representations received during these consultations form part of the broader process through which the Commission considers matters within its scope.
Other October 2026 Meeting
The 8th Central Pay Commission is scheduled to visit Bengaluru on October 7 and 8, 2026. The deadline for organisations seeking appointments for the Bengaluru meetings was September 18.
