A deep depression is currently active over the west-central and northwest Bay of Bengal and has been moving at around 7 kmph over the past six hours. The weather system is positioned approximately 150 km from Gopalpur, 100 km from Kalingapatnam, 220 km from Puri in Odisha and 180 km from Visakhapatnam.
According to the current movement of the system, it is expected to cross the coast between Visakhapatnam and Gopalpur tonight while remaining a deep depression. Widespread rainfall is likely across the region today and Thursday.
Authorities have advised residents to remain alert as extremely heavy rainfall has been forecast in several areas.
Visakhapatnam-Kirandul Express Cancelled
In view of the expected heavy rainfall in the North Andhra region, the Railway Department has cancelled services of the Visakhapatnam-Kirandul-Visakhapatnam Express.
Train number 18515, operating from Visakhapatnam to Kirandul on Wednesday, has been cancelled. Its return service, train number 18516 from Kirandul to Visakhapatnam scheduled for Thursday, has also been cancelled.
Railway officials have asked passengers to take note of the cancellation and check the latest train-related updates before making travel plans.
Landslide Warning Issued for Agency Areas
A weather alert has also been issued for residents in the Agency areas of Alluri Sitarama Raju and Parvathipuram Manyam districts.
Officials have warned that heavy rainfall associated with the deep depression could trigger landslides, particularly along ghat roads. As a precautionary measure, restrictions have been placed on the movement of heavy vehicles during the night.
People living on hill slopes have been advised to remain particularly cautious. Authorities have also urged residents to avoid unnecessary risks near streams and rivulets, as water levels may rise and several water channels could overflow following the heavy rain.
