The Central Government’s Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban 2.0 (PMAY-U 2.0) is aimed at supporting eligible urban families who do not own a pucca house. The scheme came into effect from September 1, 2024, and is being implemented over a five-year period.
Under PMAY-U 2.0, financial assistance is being provided to eligible urban families for constructing, purchasing or renting affordable housing. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has also launched a unified web portal through which eligible beneficiaries can apply directly and track their applications.
Target of 1 Crore Urban Families
PMAY-U 2.0 has been designed to address the housing requirements of 1 crore urban poor and middle-class families over five years. The scheme has four components: Beneficiary-Led Construction (BLC), Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP), Affordable Rental Housing (ARH) and the Interest Subsidy Scheme (ISS).
Under the BLC and AHP components, government assistance can be provided up to ₹2.50 lakh per housing unit, subject to the applicable scheme conditions and funding pattern. The ARH component focuses on affordable rental housing, while the ISS provides interest subsidy support for eligible home loans.

Who Can Apply for PM Awas Yojana 2.0?
Families belonging to the EWS, LIG and MIG categories can be eligible under PMAY-U 2.0 if they meet the scheme’s conditions, including the requirement that they do not own a pucca house anywhere in the country.
For the income categories, the scheme defines EWS households as those with annual income up to ₹3 lakh, LIG households as those with annual income from ₹3 lakh up to ₹6 lakh, and MIG households as those with annual income from ₹6 lakh up to ₹9 lakh.
Applications and beneficiary eligibility are subject to verification through the relevant authorities. The Ministry’s official website also publishes state-wise and project-wise sanction information under PMAY-U 2.0.
How to Apply for PMAY-U 2.0 Online
Eligible applicants can use the PMAY-U 2.0 unified web portal to submit their applications. The portal was launched on October 29, 2024, and allows beneficiaries to apply directly and track the status of their applications.
The application process generally involves visiting the official PMAY-U 2.0 portal, selecting the application option, checking eligibility and completing the required Aadhaar-based authentication. Applicants then need to provide their personal and family details along with the required income and housing-related information.
After submitting the application, applicants should retain the application details or acknowledgement so they can track the status of their request through the portal.
