The government has announced that biometric Aadhaar authentication will be required from October 1, 2026, for domestic LPG consumers who want to book refills at the regulated retail selling price with the applicable subsidy.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas said the measure is aimed at ensuring that subsidised LPG reaches eligible consumers and at improving transparency in the subsidy system. Consumers who have already completed the authentication process will not need to repeat it.

Why Biometric Aadhaar Authentication Is Being Introduced

According to the ministry, linking LPG connections with Aadhaar-authenticated consumers will help identify duplicate and ineligible connections. It is also intended to reduce the diversion of subsidised domestic LPG cylinders for commercial and industrial purposes.

The government has said the process is not intended to stop LPG supplies to genuine households. Consumers who are eligible for the subsidy have been provided with multiple ways to complete the authentication process.

27.43 Crore LPG Consumers Already Authenticated

As of September 19, 2026, a total of 27.43 crore active domestic LPG consumers had completed biometric Aadhaar authentication, representing 89.9% of the consumer base.

Those who have already completed the process do not have to take any further action and can continue booking their refills as usual. Consumers who have not completed authentication will need to do so for subsidised refill booking at the regulated retail selling price.

How LPG Consumers Can Complete Authentication

Consumers who are yet to complete biometric Aadhaar authentication can use several options. The process can be carried out during LPG cylinder delivery with the help of the delivery person, at the LPG distributor’s showroom, or through the mobile applications of the respective oil marketing companies.

Indane customers can use the IndianOil ONE app, Bharatgas consumers can use HelloBPCL, while HP Gas customers can complete the process through the HP PAY app.

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry has advised consumers who have not yet completed biometric Aadhaar authentication to finish the process before October 1, 2026.
