Delhi’s ASHA workers are set to receive a higher monthly incentive after the Delhi Cabinet approved a proposal to double the fixed amount from Rs 3,000 to Rs 6,000. The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on September 15, 2026.

The revised incentive will apply to all ASHA workers currently working in Delhi. Other incentives available to them will continue unchanged, according to the government. The decision will benefit all 6,725 ASHA workers currently engaged in the national capital.

ASHA Workers’ Role in Delhi’s Healthcare System

ASHA workers serve as an important link between communities and the public healthcare system. Their responsibilities include visiting households, sharing health-related information and encouraging families to take part in vaccination programmes.

They also assist pregnant women and new mothers with healthcare-related services. In addition, ASHA workers take part in health and nutrition activities, awareness programmes, surveys and community meetings. Their contribution at the community level was also highlighted during the COVID-19 pandemic.

At present, Delhi has 6,725 ASHA workers. On average, one ASHA worker is associated with around 2,000 people or approximately 400 families.

Government Says Hike Will Improve Financial Security

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the increase in the monthly incentive is intended to recognise the contribution of ASHA workers and provide them with greater financial security.

According to the government, the higher incentive is also expected to support the continued delivery of community-level health services and contribute to strengthening primary healthcare in Delhi. The Chief Minister also linked the decision with women’s economic empowerment.

Other Incentives to Continue

The increase in the fixed monthly incentive does not replace the other incentives available to ASHA workers. The government has stated that existing additional incentives will continue under the revised arrangement.

With the fixed monthly incentive now increased from Rs 3,000 to Rs 6,000, the decision directly covers all serving ASHA workers in Delhi and marks a change in the financial support provided to the city’s community health workforce.
