Google has introduced the Gemini app for Windows, bringing its AI assistant directly to PCs with multitasking, AI agents, image creation and video-generation capabilities.
Windows users can now access Google’s Gemini AI through a dedicated desktop application instead of relying on a browser tab. The new app is designed to make it easier to use Gemini while working on other tasks, allowing the AI assistant and its agents to operate alongside regular Windows applications.
The launch also gives users a more convenient way to access Google’s growing collection of AI-powered creative and productivity tools.
Gemini App for Windows: What Can It Do?
Google says the Gemini Windows app has been developed with multitasking in mind. Users can bring up the AI assistant while continuing to work in other applications, making it possible to ask Gemini for help without constantly switching between browser tabs.
The app can be opened quickly using the Alt + Space keyboard shortcut. This provides a dedicated Gemini interface without requiring users to keep the web version open.
While many of these capabilities were already available through Gemini on the web, the Windows application provides a more integrated desktop experience.
AI Agents Can Handle Multi-Step Tasks
One of the key features of the new Windows app is support for AI agents. Google is positioning Gemini as more than a conventional chatbot by allowing its agents to take care of tasks involving multiple steps.
The Gemini Spark AI agent, for example, can be assigned more complex jobs rather than simply answering individual questions.
Users can also connect Gemini with services such as Gmail, Google Docs and Google Drive. This allows the AI to work with information from these services, summarize documents, assist with projects and help locate information.
Gemini Windows App Adds Image and Video Creation
Google has also included its AI-powered creative tools in the Windows application.
The Nano Banana model is available for generating and editing images. Users can use the tool to create new visuals or make changes to existing images using AI.
For video creation, the app includes access to the Omni AI model, expanding Gemini’s capabilities beyond text and images.
These tools make the Windows application useful not only for productivity but also for users who want to experiment with AI-generated visual content.
Gemini App Supports Windows 10 and Windows 11
The new Gemini application is compatible with both Windows 10 and Windows 11 PCs.
Google says the app has been designed to remain lightweight and should not significantly affect the performance of a Windows computer while running in the background.
The company also plans to expand the application with additional Gemini integrations and capabilities through future updates.
More Gemini Features Could Be Announced Soon
Google is expected to provide additional information about its AI plans during the Googlebook event on September 15 in New York City.
The event could offer more insight into how Gemini will be integrated into Google’s hardware and software ecosystem, including speculation around a potential Chromebook replacement powered heavily by Gemini.
For Windows users, however, the arrival of the dedicated Gemini application marks another step toward making Google’s AI assistant a more integrated part of everyday desktop computing.
