SBI ATM Rules 2026: State Bank of India (SBI) has announced changes to certain debit card transaction rules for customers holding salary package accounts. The revised charges and transaction limits will come into effect from October 1, 2026.
The major change is related to free ATM and Automated Deposit cum Withdrawal Machine (ADWM) transactions made at other banks. Customers with SBI salary package accounts will have fewer free transactions available each month under the revised rules.
SBI ATM Rules: Free Transactions Reduced From 10 to 5
At present, SBI salary package account holders can make up to 10 free transactions every month at ATMs or ADWMs operated by other banks.
From October 1, this limit will be reduced to 5 transactions per month across all centres.
The revised limit covers both:
- Financial transactions, such as cash withdrawals
- Non-financial transactions, including balance enquiries and mini statements
The rules concerning cardless cash withdrawals will remain unchanged.
What Happens After the Free ATM Limit?
SBI has not changed the existing charges applicable once the monthly free transaction limit is exhausted.
For transactions at other banks’ ATMs, customers will continue to pay:
- Cash withdrawal: ₹23 + GST per transaction
- Non-financial transaction: ₹11 + GST per transaction
Therefore, salary account customers who frequently use other banks’ ATMs may need to keep the revised five-transaction limit in mind.
Is This Change Applicable to All SBI Customers?
No. SBI has clarified that the revised rule specifically applies to salary package accounts.
The bank stated that there will be no change in the monthly free transaction limit or applicable service charges for accounts other than salary package accounts.
Customers with other types of SBI accounts will therefore continue to follow the existing applicable rules unless separately notified by the bank.
SBI BSBD Account Charges Also Changing
SBI has announced another change involving Basic Savings Bank Deposit (BSBD) accounts.
Under the revised structure, BSBD account holders will receive four free cash withdrawals every month after the new rules come into effect.
Once the four free withdrawals have been used, every additional cash withdrawal during that month will attract a charge of ₹15 + GST per transaction.
Which Cash Withdrawals Will Be Counted?
The revised BSBD withdrawal charges will cover cash withdrawals made through several channels, including:
- SBI branches
- ATMs
- Micro-ATMs
- Aadhaar Enabled Payment System (AePS)
- CASH@POS
Customers using these facilities should therefore keep track of their monthly free withdrawal limit.
Digital Transactions Will Continue to Remain Free
There is some relief for BSBD account holders who primarily use digital payment methods.
According to the revised information, digital fund transfers through UPI, IMPS, NEFT and RTGS will continue to remain free. POS transactions will also continue without the revised cash-withdrawal charge.
SBI ATM Rules From October 2026: Key Changes
| Account Type | Revised Rule |
|---|---|
| Salary Package Account | 5 free transactions at other banks’ ATMs/ADWMs per month |
| Extra financial transaction | ₹23 + GST |
| Extra non-financial transaction | ₹11 + GST |
| BSBD Account | 4 free cash withdrawals per month |
| Additional BSBD cash withdrawal | ₹15 + GST |
| UPI/IMPS/NEFT/RTGS | Free as per stated rules |
What Should SBI Customers Do?
SBI customers, particularly those with salary package accounts, should be aware of the reduced free ATM transaction limit from October 1, 2026. If you regularly withdraw cash from another bank’s ATM, exceeding the revised limit could result in additional charges.
BSBD account holders should also keep track of their monthly cash withdrawals to avoid unnecessary fees.
Note: Banking charges and rules can be revised by the bank. Customers should check SBI’s latest official notification or applicable account terms before relying on these charges.
