CWG 2026: Seema Kaliramna’s bronze medal in the women’s discus throw at the Commonwealth Games 2026 was much more than another addition to India’s medal tally. The achievement symbolised years of perseverance, determination, and resilience as the Haryana athlete battled post-pregnancy arthritis, balanced motherhood with academics, and fought her way back to the international stage.

The 27-year-old secured her first-ever Commonwealth Games medal in Glasgow with a best throw of 58.65 metres. Despite recording three consecutive fouls in her final attempts, her earlier effort proved enough to seal a memorable bronze medal for India.

An Emotional Milestone for Seema Kaliramna

After the competition, Seema admitted that the medal held special meaning because of the challenges she had faced during her comeback.

Speaking to NNIS Sports, the Indian discus thrower said she was overwhelmed by the achievement.

“I am feeling really happy and emotional. I competed at the 2025 Asian Championships with limited international experience, and that event taught me many valuable lessons. Although I couldn’t achieve my personal best here, my only focus was to deliver a strong performance,” Seema said.

A Journey of Determination and Comeback

Seema’s path to the Commonwealth Games podium was anything but easy. Following pregnancy, she struggled with arthritis, making her return to competitive athletics an enormous challenge. Alongside her recovery, she managed the responsibilities of motherhood while continuing her education, demonstrating exceptional commitment both on and off the field.

Her bronze medal in Glasgow stands as a testament to her unwavering dedication and determination to overcome adversity.

A Medal Beyond Numbers

While the 58.65m throw may not have been Seema’s personal best, it represented one of the biggest moments of her career. The medal highlighted her ability to perform under pressure and reaffirmed India’s growing strength in field events at the Commonwealth Games.

For Seema Kaliramna, the podium finish is not just a sporting achievement—it is an inspiring story of resilience, sacrifice, and the power of never giving up despite life’s toughest challenges.
