Mumbai Police have launched an investigation after threatening emails targeting several prominent personalities, educational institutions and civic offices surfaced on Friday, October 23, 2026. The messages reportedly named Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan, singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh and multiple locations across Mumbai, prompting security checks and increased vigilance.
The emails allegedly came from an individual identifying as ‘Smith Johnson’ and mentioned specific locations and dates for possible attacks. Following the alerts, police teams were deployed to inspect the threatened premises and assess the seriousness of the warnings.
Amitabh Bachchan’s Residence, Diljit Dosanjh’s Concert Among Targets
According to the emails, Amitabh Bachchan’s Juhu residence, Jalsa, was threatened with a grenade attack on October 31. Singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh was also named, with the message warning of a possible “suicide attack” during his upcoming concert at Mumbai’s Mahalaxmi Racecourse on November 27. The concert is part of Dosanjh’s India tour.
Bachchan has not yet issued a statement regarding the threat. Meanwhile, security arrangements around his residence have reportedly been strengthened as a precaution.
The emails also targeted the office of Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde at the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) headquarters. One message allegedly warned of an explosion on October 23 at 3:11 PM. Deputy Mayor Sanjay Ghadi was also reportedly mentioned.
Educational institutions were among the other locations named in the threatening messages. These included a school in Mumbai’s Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) and Vibgyor High School in Airoli, Navi Mumbai. Vibgyor High School was evacuated as a precaution after receiving a bomb threat.
Mumbai Police Conduct Security Checks Across Threatened Locations
Following the receipt of the emails, Mumbai Police began efforts to identify the sender and carried out inspections at the locations mentioned in the messages. Security checks were conducted at the BMC headquarters, the schools and the area surrounding Bachchan’s residence.
Authorities reported that no suspicious objects were found during the inspections, easing immediate concerns. However, the investigation remains underway as police work to establish the source of the emails and determine whether the threats are credible.
The messages reportedly included pro-Khalistan slogans and claimed to represent an organisation calling itself the “Khalistan National Army.” They also referred to individuals allegedly connected with Khalistan-linked organisations.
Investigation Underway as Security Is Strengthened
Investigators are examining the contents of the emails and attempting to trace their origin. Police are also working to verify the authenticity of the messages and assess the potential risks associated with the threats.
As a precaution, security and surveillance measures have been strengthened at the mayor’s office, Mahalaxmi Racecourse and prominent educational institutions across Mumbai.
Authorities have urged the public to remain calm while the investigation continues. Further action will depend on the findings of the ongoing probe.
