Goa Police have registered an Unnatural Death (UD) case following the death of Bollywood actor Nana Patekar. The case has been filed under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), with Police Sub-Inspector Nitin Naik leading the investigation.
According to reports, the veteran actor was brought from his residence in Dona Paula to Manipal Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. Police are now examining the circumstances surrounding his death to establish the exact cause.
Goa Police to Examine Post-Mortem Report
As part of the investigation, police will prepare a panchnama and review the post-mortem report from Goa Medical College (GMC). Statements from Nana Patekar’s family members and other relevant individuals will also be recorded to help establish the circumstances leading to his death.
The next course of action will depend on the findings. If the investigation confirms that the death occurred due to natural causes, the case may be closed. However, if investigators identify any suspicious circumstances or evidence of foul play, further legal proceedings may follow.
Earlier on Thursday morning, Dr Shekhar Salkar of Manipal Hospital explained to the media why the police had been informed about the incident.
“We tried our best here, but he was brought dead, and then we had to file a police case,” the doctor said.
Nana Patekar Suffered Cardiac Arrest at Goa Residence
According to the available information, Nana Patekar died early Thursday morning after suffering a cardiac arrest at his residence in Goa. Doctors at Manipal Hospital attempted to revive him through cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for approximately 45 minutes. However, he was declared dead at 5.20 a.m.
Dr Salkar also indicated that the actor had a history of heart-related problems and was taking medication.
“As far as we know, he was a heart patient and was taking medication,” he told the media.
The actor’s post-mortem examination was conducted on Thursday morning. After the procedure, his body was handed over to his family for the final rites.
Nana Patekar’s Family Background
Nana Patekar was born on January 1, 1951, into a Marathi family. His birth name was Vishwanath Patekar, and he was the son of Gajanan (Dinkar) Patekar and Nirmala Patekar (Sanjanabai Patekar).
His father worked as a textile painter and businessman and passed away when Nana Patekar was 28 years old. His mother, Nirmala, was a homemaker who remained with the veteran actor until her death on January 29, 2019, at the age of 99.
The police investigation is expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the actor’s death, with the post-mortem findings and statements from family members forming part of the inquiry.
