Vijay Salgaonkar is set to return on October 2 with Drishyam: The Conclusion. As the much-awaited third instalment arrives in theatres, here is a recap of the major events from the first two films.

Drishyam Part 1 Recap: How Did Sameer Die?

Vijay Salgaonkar is a Class 4-failed cable operator living a modest life in Goa with his wife Nandini and daughters Anju and Anu. A passionate movie lover, Vijay’s ordinary life takes a drastic turn when Sam, the son of IG Meera Deshmukh, begins blackmailing Anju over an objectionable video.

During a confrontation, Anju accidentally kills Sam while defending herself. Rather than surrendering to the police, Vijay decides to protect his family by creating a carefully planned alibi inspired by the movies he has watched.

He makes his family repeatedly follow the same story: on October 2, they were in Panjim, visited a church, ate pav bhaji, watched a movie and stayed at a hotel. Vijay also preserves bills and other details to make the story appear genuine.

However, Meera refuses to abandon the investigation. The police question the family and even put pressure on the children, but the alibi remains intact.

The biggest twist comes when Vijay secretly moves Sam’s body from his backyard and buries it beneath the construction site of the Goa police station. His reasoning is that the police would never think of digging beneath their own building.

The first film ends with Meera and Mahesh discovering that Sam is missing, while the case eventually gets closed.

Drishyam 2 Recap: How Did Vijay Escape Again?

The story resumes seven years later, with Vijay now running a theatre and hoping to produce a film of his own. Despite appearing to have moved on, the family continues to live with the consequences of Sam’s death, with Anju particularly affected by what happened.

The case is reopened after Meera requests a fresh investigation, this time under new IG Tarun Ahlawat. The police also receive information from David, a criminal who claims to have seen Vijay near the construction site on the night Sam disappeared.

Tarun assigns undercover officers Jenny and Shiv to observe the Salgaonkar family. As the pressure increases, Vijay eventually confesses to Sam’s murder, leading the police to excavate the remains from the construction site.

But Vijay has another plan in place.

His friend Murad has already written a novel titled Drishyam, whose story closely resembles the events surrounding Sam’s disappearance. Vijay’s lawyer uses the book in court to argue that the police investigation has been influenced by the fictional story and that Vijay is being framed.

The case takes another turn when the DNA examination fails to establish a match. Vijay had secretly replaced Sam’s remains with those of another similar skeleton.

The sequel concludes on an emotional note when Vijay anonymously gives Sam’s ashes to Meera and Mahesh, allowing them to finally perform his last rites. Mahesh finds some closure and asks Meera to move beyond her anger.

What To Expect From Drishyam: The Conclusion

Ajay Devgn returns as Vijay Salgaonkar, alongside Tabu, Shriya Saran and Rajat Kapoor. Prakash Raj and Jaideep Ahlawat are also part of the cast, while Abhishek Pathak returns to direct.

Unlike the first two films, which were adaptations of the Malayalam Drishyam films, Drishyam: The Conclusion is based on an entirely new story.

With Vijay having managed to stay ahead of the investigation twice, the next chapter leaves plenty of questions about what he will do next.
